ABOUT THE TRAINING

This in person workshop has been designed specifically for Animal Management Officers, Local Laws Officers, Council Rangers, Shelter teams, and others working directly with and handling animals in their workplace.

During this interactive workshop we will focus on early intervention, safe handling, and animal body language and behaviour, including:

Behaviour + Body Language

Common and complex dog and cat body language.

Behavioural characteristics of high risk dogs and cats.

How fear, anxiety, and stress impact animal behaviour and ways you can reduce these in the animals in your care.

Using body language and behaviour to reduce risk and for early intervention when approaching unknown animals.

Safe Capture + Handling

Safe approach and control measures for both dogs and cats.

Use of restraint equipment including muzzles, leads, collars, towels, crates, cages, nets, snares, and capture poles.

Safe handling, restraint, and transport of dogs and cats.

Loading and unloading high risk animals.

Appropriate PPE and toolbox inclusions.

Mental Health + Training Problems

Distinguishing potential training problems from mental health disorders.

Common problem behaviours including barking, escaping, and biting.

Communicating concerns with animal caretakers including owners and shelter teams.

Please note: in line with our Fear Free Certification this workshop does NOT include the use of live animals.
